    Eligibility:

    Transfer Credit from an Ontario College is usually granted in 1 of 4 ways:

    1. Block Credit Policy

    Ontario college students who have completed at least one term of a certificate or diploma program may be eligible to receive a group of transfer credit (鈥渂lock transfers鈥). As soon as you are offered admission to York, the Office of Admissions assesses your previous postsecondary studies for transfer credit eligibility. This means that before you accept your offer of admission, you may know exactly how much transfer credit you鈥檒l receive. Wait times for transfer assessment completion vary depending on the time of year. The earlier you accept your offer, the earlier you will receive your transfer credit statement. The credit you receive depends on:

    • whether the courses you have taken are transferable (academically-equivalent to York courses);
    • the number of courses you have completed;
    • grades achieves; and
    • how your previous postsecondary studies fit with the program you鈥檝e been admitted to at York.

    2. Articulation Agreements

    An articulation agreement usually provides a simplified, guaranteed transfer process for transfer students. Agreements between various Canadian colleges and York specify the number of transfer credits and the approximate length of time required for a college student to complete a degree at York, as well as specific college courses and letter that will transfer to the university.

    3. Dual Credential Programs

    Dual Credential programs allow you to combine a university degree with an Ontario college diploma or certificate program. For example, York鈥檚 communication studies program is a dual credential program with Seneca College.

    • Ecosystem Management with Fleming College

    4. Collaborative Agreements

    A collaborative program is one in which several schools work together to provide comprehensive education programs, with colleges providing the smaller, more hands-on approach and degree-level courses provided by the larger university.     If you have completed postsecondary courses elsewhere, you may be eligible to receive credit which will reduce the length of your degree. Most programs at York consist of 120 credits and take four years to complete. Provided the courses you have taken fit your program, you may receive up to a maximum of 90 credits.

    The amount of transfer credit you receive depends on whether the courses you have taken are transferable (equivalent to York courses), how many courses you have taken, grades achieved, course content and whether all the courses you have taken fit in the program to which you are applying.

    Eligibility:

    If you studied in the US or US education system:
    Institutionally prepared course outlines or syllabi are required when US applicants have taken business, biology, chemistry, economics, mathematics, statistics or physics that may apply to their admitted degree program. The outlines should include a detailed list of topics covered, list of textbooks and number of lecture, tutorial and laboratory hours.

    If you studied outside North America:
    Institutionally prepared course outlines or syllabi are required for students who studied outside North America.     A maximum of 30 credits (5 full term courses) maybe awarded for completion of the French Baccalaureate Diploma in series S (scientifique), L (litt茅raire), or ES (茅conomique et sociale) with a minimum average of 10/20 (mention passable). Most academic courses with a passed grade of 12 or better qualify for credit.
    Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) Diploma
    • A maximum of 18 (3 full term courses) transfer credits maybe awarded for completion of the CAPE Diploma.
    • Most 2-unit academic courses with grades of 1, 2 or 3, in examinations qualify for credit. (Cannot combine two 1-unit courses).

    A minimum 70% OVGPA is required to be eligible for transfer credit. A maximum of 30 credits (5 full year courses) may be awarded for completion of the DEC.  If the DEC has not been completed, credit may be awarded for courses taken beyond the first 12 academic courses with grades of 60% or better when an overall average is 70% or better.

    All Applicants

    The deadline for Ontario high school students to submit their application for admission to Fall (September) 2026 is January 15, 2026. For all other students the deadline for guaranteed consideration is February 2, 2026. Please note that we will continue to accept and assess applications after the February 2 deadline until each program is full. To ensure adequate time to apply for a study permit (if applicable) we recommend you apply as early as possible. Visit our Application Deadlines webpage for details.

    Undergraduate applications are typically assessed within six weeks, once all required documents are received by the admissions team. If you have any questions about your application, visit I鈥檝e Applied page for information about required documents.

    Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an acknowledgment e-mail from 草榴2024新地扯一二, providing you with a York Student Number to track your application status in our applicant portal,鈥.鈥疘f you have not received a student number within 4-5 business days of submitting your application, please check your spam and junk folders and be sure to add info@yorku.cato your Safe Senders list.

    Depending on when you applied, you may see a blank status if your application is pending assessment. Please ensure your application is鈥肠辞尘辫濒别迟别鈥to avoid assessment delays and continue checking the status of your application on your MyFile account.

    Being waitlisted for admission means that while you have met all of the minimum admission requirements, your chosen competitive program of interest has reached capacity at this time. We continue to monitor the waitlist and will grant offers as space becomes available. 

    Please continue to check MyFile for any update to the status of your application(s).

    College/University Transfer Students

    York continues to welcome transfer applicants, and Transfer Credits are awarded based on your most recent transcript.

    Transfer Credit Assessment 鈥 please visit the Transfer Students page, or contact the Transfer Connect team. 

    A transfer applicant is a student that has previously attended post-secondary studies referring to college or university or is currently enrolled in college or university.
    A mature applicant is an individual that has completed their high school diploma but has never attended nor attempted post-secondary studies previously in any capacity.
    You will be considered a transfer applicant and York will review transcripts from all of your previous studies (both college and university) to assess admission and transfer credit eligibility.
    Yes! York welcomes applicants who are returning to their education after a break. Your work, life, and learning experiences can help strengthen your overall application.
